I interned in a robotics lab in Japan during summer 2011. This model is a fun reminder of my experience.
The design for this model is quite straightforward since it just requires a lot of box-pleating, and it's quite easy to tweak the design to make new variants of this robot. I played around with many different head/body/arm/leg proportions before settling on this combination. The precreasing and collapsing steps are the most difficult. The starting grid is divided into 64ths diagonally.
