I initially wanted to design a gingerbread house to match my gingerbread people, but I later decided to design a generic house with a tile roof. This model can still resemble a gingerbread house if folded from paper with the appropriate colors. The structure is based on the structure of my previous house model except that the flat roof is replaced with a tessellation. It was diffcult to integrate the roof tile pattern without increasing the complexity too much. I managed to keep the design at a doable level by minimizing the tile count and shifting paper to prevent areas from being unused.
This model still has room for improvement. Variation 1 has a noticeable hole in the back of the model, but I didn't think closing the hole was worth the additional complexity and paper use. In variation 2 the locks are very weak and the paper folded in at the base does not perfectly align with the front walls.
Both variations 1 & 2 are based on a 56x56 grid.
